Privacy

Heartfold shares where you are, and what you choose to leave behind, with exactly one other person: your partner. This page explains what that takes, where it's kept, and how to make it go away. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

The short version

• One reader. Your location, trail and moments are visible to you and the one partner you paired with. Nobody else, including other Heartfold users.
• No ads, no selling. We don't sell or rent your data, don't show ads, and don't share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
• No trackers. Neither the app nor this website uses advertising or analytics trackers.
• Leave any time. Ask us and we delete your account and everything in it.

What we collect

• Your account. When you sign in with Apple, we receive an identifier from Apple and, if you choose to share them, your name and email (which may be an Apple private relay address).
• Your profile. The name, pronouns and colour you pick, your city and time zone, and, if you add it, the date you got together.
• Your location. While sharing is on, the app records GPS positions (coordinates, accuracy, speed, heading and time), including in the background. We turn these into your trail and the places you stayed. This is the heart of the app and is only shown to your partner.
• What you leave. Photos, voice notes, words, comments and reactions you post, with the place and time they belong to.
• Your device. A push notification token, your battery level (so your partner knows why you went quiet), the app version, and technical events about how location capture is behaving, which we use to fix bugs and save battery.
• Crash reports. If the app or server errors, a report with technical details, the account it happened to and the IP address is sent to our error monitoring service.
• The waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email, your answer to “Where are you both?” if you give one, and which link brought you here (for example a TikTok or Instagram post). We use these only to tell you when Heartfold is available and to learn which posts reach people. This website sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts.

Where your data is kept

Our servers and database are in Sydney, Australia. Some of the services that help run Heartfold, such as photo storage and crash reporting, may process data overseas, including in the United States; they act only on our behalf and can't use it for anything else. Your partner may also live in another country, and what you share is shown to them there.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you have an account, so your partner can look back through your days together. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, location history and moments from our servers within 30 days. Backups roll off after a further 30 days. Waitlist emails are deleted once we've sent the launch email.

Your choices

• You can turn off location access for Heartfold at any time in iOS Settings. Your partner will see your last known place until you turn it back on.
• You can delete any moment you posted from within the app.
• You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing hello@heartfold.app. We'll reply within 30 days.
• You don't have to use your real name. The name in your profile is only shown to your partner.

If something goes wrong

If we ever have a data breach that's likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as soon as we can, and explain what we're doing about it.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, email hello@heartfold.app and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Children

Heartfold isn't meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
